2) Demi Lovato, "Shouldn't Come Back": Demetria Devonne Lovato (aka Demi Lovato) majorly surprised her Lovatics yesterday by unveiling the entirety of her upcoming studio album, Demi, on her official website. "Shouldn't Come Back," one of the major standouts of the largely pop-rock collection, is an aching ballad that sees Demi sadly crooning away on top of a simple guitar strum and sorrowful strings. "Sorry I'm not sorry for the times I don't reply/ You know the reason why,"she bitterly croons. We all know that Demi's got the pipes to blow like Kelly Clarkson, but it's the restraint and stripped-down quality of "Shouldn't Come Back" that truly allows the former Disney princess to shine bright.

Us Weekly: Liam Hemsworth's Brothers Luke, Chris Hemsworth Staged Intervention to End Miley Cyrus Engagement

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

Oh, brother! Liam Hemsworth's actor siblings, Chris and Luke, were so fired up about the relationship between their little brother and fiancee Miley Cyrus, they staged an intervention with him in April.
"They want him to end the romance for good," a source tells Us Weekly. And apparently their words have made an impact. The couple of nearly four years -- who got engaged last June -- recently stopped making wedding plans and have been spending plenty of time apart.

Take May 1: While the singer, 20, partied at Beacher's Madhouse in L.A., the Hunger Games star, 23, hung out at Chateau Marmont. Though one source maintains the duo aren't done, another insider adds, "Liam's pulling away."

In a recent interview with V magazine, Cyrus explained why she and Hemsworth spend so much time apart. "I'm not home with my boyfriend all the time. We work," she said. "I don't have time go to Starbucks with my boyfriend every morning. I wish I did, but I don't. I'd rather chill at my house and be there for the time I actually get to spend with him. And then I'm at the studio all day. He gets up to work out at six and I come home at five from the studio."

And right now, her new album is her top priority. "I put this record before everything, and I've never done that with anything," Cyrus said. "I've put too much into this record to put anything else in front of it."

E! News: Miley Cyrus and Liam Hemsworth Engagement Still On Amid Family Intervention Rumors, Says Source

Chalk this up to yet another round of rumor roadblocks along Miley Cyrus and Liam Hemsworth's road to the altar.
A report surfaced Wednesday claiming that Liam's siblings, Chris Hemsworth and Luke Hemsworth, were far from sold on their younger's brother's relationship with the "Ashtrays and Heartbreaks" singer—so unconvinced, in fact, that they allegedly attempted to stage an intervention for Liam to call it quits with his fiancée.

An insider, however, confirms having no such knowledge that any kind of intervention happened, and exclusively tells E! News that the Hemsworth family has been nothing but supportive of Liam's ladylove.
Our insider says that Liam's family, including Chris, have always been "very welcoming to the entire Cyrus family." The couple's engagement, we're told, is still on, although our source adds that Liam and Miley have yet to set any wedding plans.

In fact, only a few weeks ago, Chris Hemsworth and his wife Elsa Pataky spoke to us about their support for the union. "We're very excited," Pataky said to E! News.
We just want them to live a happy life," Hemsworth added.

Although Miley has raised eyebrows after being spotted several times without her engagement ring, she recently gushed to Elle UK about her fiancé .
"It just seems right to be wearing this ring and to be committed," the 20-year-old popster told the magazine. "But we keep our relationship low-key and don't talk about it anymore."

And Lainey's take...

The family intervention

According to US Weekly, Chris and Luke Hemsworth, brothers of Liam Hemsworth, who is still, apparently, Miley Cyrus’s fiancé, stepped in about a month ago to convince him to leave her. Like a romance intervention. Because she’s not good for him. Liam is said to have agreed.

So...he spends Oscar weekend with his tongue inside January Jones’s mouth, and SHE’s not good for HIM?!

If this is true, and I suspect it is, to generate sympathy for Liam because he’s good looking and well built and Miley has short hair now and isn’t Hannah Montana anymore, it’s gross.
They’re kids. They’re stupid. They think love lasts forever. It doesn’t, and things get f-cked up for a while, but interfering with it only makes it worse. Interfering with it only makes one person feel not good enough and isolated. Like they don’t belong. Not exactly kind compassionate behaviour.

I’m with her on this one. And if I were her I’d use it as motivation. Make that new record -- that she’s been working on forever -- a monster smash. And then formally dump his ass -- and his family’s too -- on stage at the VMAs.

Disney and Electronic Arts sign 'Star Wars' video game deal

"The Walt Disney Co. and Electronic Arts Inc. have inked a licensing deal that will see the video game developer make and publish new "Star Wars" games, the companies said Monday afternoon.

Under the exclusive, multi-year agreement, Electronic Arts will develop titles for "all interactive platforms and the most popular game genres" related to "Star Wars." Disney retains certain rights to develop games for mobile, social, tablet and online platforms, the companies said.

The announcement comes a little more than a month after Disney's Lucasfilm Ltd. subsidiary, which is responsible for the "Star Wars" franchise, said it would no longer make video games."

“Collaborating with one of the world’s premier game developers will allow us to bring an amazing portfolio of new Star Wars titles to our fans around the world,” said John Pleasants, co-president of Disney Interactive, in a statement.

In April, Burbank-based Disney's Lucasfilm announced that its video game unit would stop making games and instead would look to license its intellectual property. Lucasfilm's video game division, LucasArts, was founded in 1982 and is best known for a slew of "Star Wars" video games.

As a result of the LucasArts decision, there were "layoffs across the organization," though Lucasfilm did not say how many employees at its San Francisco-based gaming division were affected. Disney completed its $4.06-billion acquisition of Lucasfilm in December.

Redwood City, Calif.-based Electronic Arts, one of the world's biggest gaming companies, is known for sports franchises "Madden NFL" and "FIFA Soccer" and other series such as "Need for Speed,""The Sims" and "Medal of Honor."

EA Labels President Frank Gibeau said in a statement that the new games "may borrow from films" but will be original, with new stories and gameplay.

“Every developer dreams of creating games for the 'Star Wars' universe,” Gibeau said. “Three of our top studios will fulfill that dream, crafting epic adventures for 'Star Wars' fans."

Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Zendaya checks her phone as she arrives at the Dancing with the Stars studio for rehearsal on Wednesday afternoon (May 8) in Los Angeles.

Earlier in the week, the 16-year-old actress and her partner Val Chmerkovskiy scored the season’s first perfect score of 30 for their trio dance with pro Gleb Savchenko.

“I feel good. I feel like I work every week and I try to deliver a 10-worthy performance every time,” Z recently told E! News about the score. “I think that’s what I go for every week: to get those three 10′s, so just until it happened, I was waiting, but I was working hard. I want people to know that every week I work with the intention of getting them!”

Disney Animation announces first Marvel movie, ‘Big Hero 6′

Big-Hero-6-San-Fransokyo-Detail

"Walt Disney Animation Studios is announcing its first movie inspired by a Marvel comic Thursday, an adaptation of a lesser known crime fighter series called “Big Hero 6.”

Directed by Don Hall (“Winnie the Pooh”) and due in 2014, the CG-animated movie will center on a robotics prodigy named Hiro Hamada and his robot companion BayMax, who join a team of superheroes in a high-tech city called San Fransokyo."

For a closer look at the city of San Fransokyo, see the video above by clicking on the image.

Even die-hard comic book fans may have trouble recalling the Marvel series, which was created by Steven T. Seagle and Duncan Rouleau in 1998 and is something of a whimsical love letter to Japanese culture. Characters in the original comic include a samurai, an agent who invented a nanotechnology-based Power Purse and a monster born from a child’s drawings."

For Hall, the absence of a detail-obsessed fan base for the series was part of its appeal, as it left every character and setting open to interpretation.

“I was looking for something on the obscure side, something that would mesh well with what we do,” Hall said. “The idea of a kid and a robot story with a strong brother element, it’s very Disney.”

The original comic is set in Tokyo, though Hall’s film takes place in a mythical mash-up of Tokyo and San Francisco, a conceit that allows Disney’s animators to imagine a uniquely stylized cityscape — and indulge a studio-wide affinity for Japan fed by that country’s strong animation tradition.

BILLBOARD: 'DEMI' track by track review

At this point, Demi Lovato's story of success is well-known and does not need to be further dissected. In 2012, the 20-year-old scored her biggest hit to date with the sumptuously simple "Give Your Heart a Break," headlined a well-received summer tour to support her 2011 album "Unbroken" and increased her national profile by sitting on "The X Factor" judges panel; Lovato was a musical star to those who didn't know the details of her prior personal struggles, and many of those who did viewed the singer as a source of inspiration. As anticipation mounted for her next full-length, pop fans didn't wonder if the album was going to be a success, but whether or not it would bring the singer to the upper echelon of the genre, to a place reserved for vocalists with a deep catalogue of hits and a magnetism that makes them empirically unavoidable.

"Demi," her fourth album, could have been a victory lap for Lovato, but it's far more than a paint-by-numbers pop album engineered to produce three radio singles and not much else. To be sure, this album contains uptempo tracks that could rule the dog days of summer once lead single "Heart Attack" presumably ceases making its hay in the spring; "Made in the USA," "Really Don't Care" and especially the fantastic "Something That We're Not" all find the right combination of bubblegum fun and Lovato's overpowering pipes. And fans of "Skyscraper" should latch onto ballads like "In Case" and "Warrior," the latter of which lets Lovato reiterate everything that she's overcome to get to such an envious career and personal position.

Most impressively, however, "Demi" takes risks. Some of them don't work out too well -- the most glaring example being the misguided dance stunt "Neon Lights" -- but it's more entertaining to hear Lovato take a few sonic detours, on songs like the pensive "Shouldn't Come Back" and prodding "Without The Love," than exist in one immobile position. The singer has a strong grip on her skills as a performer, but is still chiseling away at the formula that works best for her as an artist, and is unwittingly putting that self-discovery on display here. "Demi" may or may not launch Lovato to a new level of stardom, but it demands attention for fully capturing a singer's personality at a fascinating moment in her career. It's an imperfect album, but it's better that way.

Which songs on "Demi" are worth repeated listens? Check out Billboard's track-by-track breakdown and listen to some of the highlights below.

1. Heart Attack
Months after its release, the lead single's brightest qualities have become even more luminescent, and Lovato's performance is still one at which to marvel. Backed by the Suspex's crackling wall of percussion and a prodding guitar lick, Lovato allows her fully bloomed personality to carry the song, accenting syllables for added effect on the pre-chorus and belting the bridge without abandon.

2. Made in the USA
"Our love runs deep like a Chevy" is a pretty unusual way to describe the depth of one's emotions, and the opening line is (thankfully) the only name-checked brand to coyly tie the song to the stars and stripes. Instead, "Made in the USA" plays out like a grown-up version of Miley Cyrus' "Party in the USA," with shout-outs to both coasts bookending a wistful guitar lick and some fierce romantic statements.

3. Without The Love
The album's most enjoyable sucker-punch of a hook -- "Why are you singing me love songs/What good is a love song/What good is a love song… without the love?" -- is paired with lush, detailed production, highlighted by strings that soar in between plucks. Lovato sneers gleefully, and even pitches out a Joe DiMaggio simile or two for good measure.

4. Neon Lights
Lovato heads over to the club lyrically and sonically with a bid to Guetta-fy her radio persona. The results are mixed: the blinking synthesizers and clomping bass receive a boost from the singer's unflappable power, but "Neon Lights" covers well-worn electro-pop territory, and can't reach the effervescent high of something like Rihanna's "We Found Love."

5. Two Pieces
Demi ditches the fluttering dance rhythm of "Neon Lights" and grabs a guitar for "Two Pieces," a cinematic anthem meant to be performed while standing outside of an ex's house in the pouring rain. Once again, Lovato utilizes the subtleties of the quieter verses to gather and store vocal energy for the showy refrain.

6. Nightingale
This is the type of ballad that Lovato makes look like a lay-up: the theatrical notes are in place, but so is the patience, maturity and attitude that establish the singer from her pop peers. "Nightingale" soars when Lovato is joined by a chorus of backup vocalists in its final passage; if she can perfect this song live, that finale could become enlightening.

7. In Case
The details of the lyrics are reminiscent of Ne-Yo's breakout hit "So Sick": wasted food in the refrigerator, faded photos in a pant pocket, a dirty jacket salvaged for its memories. The small twinges of loss that congeal into a sorrowful whole make "In Case" the most affecting song on "Demi."

8. Really Don't Care feat. Cher Lloyd
After the heavy one-two punch of "Nightingale" and "In Case," "Really Don't Care" is a buoyant reprieve, the pop equivalent of a glass of cool lemonade on a hot summer day, and an obvious single choice."Now if we meet up on the street, I won't be running scared!/I'll walk right up to you and put one finger in the air!" Lovato sings with beguiling sassiness, before Cher Lloyd struts in for an curiously brief cameo.

9. Fire Starter - Nope, it's not a Prodigy remake, but a well-written piece of personal chest-thumping over a springy beat. With an oscillating synth riff, unrelenting kick drum and drum breakdown during the finale chorus, "Fire Starter" allows Lovato to sink her teeth into some slick pop-rock.

10. Something That We're Not
Lovato takes the melody for a stroll and then lets it sprint on the hook, cramming every syllable of this nimble kiss-off with unadulterated joy. Everything about the song works: the sun-stroked guitar lick, the bratty "Hey!" interjections, the revved-up incredulity of the line "You wanna be more than just friends!," and of course, Lovato's delirious engaging delivery. Brace for blissful ubiquity if this thing hits radio.

11. Never Been Hurt - Anything following "Something That We're Not" on the album would have trouble reaching that dizzying high, and while "Never Been Hurt" serves as a solid counterpart to "Heart Attack" with its self-destructing electronics, the track never quite sets itself apart from the superior uptempo cuts on the album. Well-intentioned and amiable, but just not a standout.

12. Shouldn't Come Back - After flaunting her pyrotechnic voice throughout the album, Lovato (relatively) dials it down and glumly suggests that the one she's missing the most is probably better off gone. Her voice inevitably swells during the climax, but the technical decision to treat the subject matter as demurely as possible pays off handsomely.

13. Warrior
Most of "Demi" sidesteps the personal struggles -- and Lovato's triumph over them -- that she laid out on "Unbroken," but "Warrior" serves as a follow-up visit to "Skyscraper" territory, this time with the singer declaring herself a phoenix that has risen from all-too-public ashes. "I've got shame, I've got scars, that I will never show/I'm a survivor, in more ways than you'll know," Lovato sings as a piano line volleys with a cello.
