Random list: The 50 most influential celebrities online

$
0
0

Social media has forever changed the way we mortals interact with the stars, but which of those stars have used social media to become truly influential online? We looked at the stats behind 160 top celebs' Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, Google+, and YouTube accounts along with each of their scores with online influence calculator Klout and distilled that information into a simple scoring system to determine our top 50 influencers. To qualify, celebs have to be using an active Twitter account, must be famous primarily in the U.S., or have an active state-side fan base, and they must be individual accounts (no bands, no brands). While the list is dominated by pop stars, actors, and television personalities, other public figures such as athletes (LeBron James) and business gods (Bill Gates) made the top 50, too.

Top 10:
1. Rihanna
2. Justin Bieber
3. Lady Gaga
4. Katy Perry
5. Shakira
6. Taylor Swift
7. Britney Spears

8. Lil Wayne
9. Cristiano Ronaldo
10. Justin Timberlake

~
2. Justin Bieber:

Facebook Fans: 53,845,619 (#7)
Twitter Followers: 40,077,846 (#1)
Klout Score: 93

When Justin Bieber tweets, Beliebers listen. Justin is the number one user on Twitter, and while he was once usurped by Lady Gaga, she's never been as active as this 19-year-old star who tweets an average of eight times per day. Every one of Justin's tweets seems to be retweeted thousands of times, and the quickest way to get famous on Twitter is to have @justinbieber tweet at you.

6. Taylor Swift

Facebook Fans: 43,628,091
Twitter Followers: 28,790,534
Klout Score: 91

More than any other star on this list, Taylor Swift is poised to move up the ranks next year. That's because with an average of 37,000 new Twitter followers per day, Taylor has the fastest-growing account on the site. It helps that the star's girl-next-door image is perfectly in sync with the pictures of her adorable cat she likes to post. And her selfie style is exactly what fans are looking for from a star whose wardrobe looks like a walking Pinterest board.

7. Britney Spears

Facebook Fans: 26,987,125
Twitter Followers: 27,736,904
Klout Score: 96

With the highest Klout score on this list, Britney Spears knows how to work social media, regularly interacting with both her fans and other famous friends. She uses social media to build anticipation for new music and shows as well as share pictures of her family and show off her sharp sense of humor.

14. Selena Gomez

Facebook Fans: 43,246,450
Twitter Followers: 15,334,475
Klout Score: 89

Selena Gomez isn't quite as popular online as her ex, Justin Bieber, but she stands a solid chance of outlasting him, so maybe she will be one day. Selena's online activity became infinitely more interesting when she and Bieber started experiencing relationship troubles. As closely as she manages her online presence, she couldn't help fanning the flames with a few cryptic messages. She also memorably used Twitter in May to announce the birth of her new little sister, Gracie Elliot Teefey.

36. Miley Cyrus

acebook Fans: 26,647,358
Twitter Followers: 12,067,802
Klout Score: 85

Miley Cyrus has had a somewhat stormy relationship with Twitter. At one point she very publicly dumped her account, but Twitter knew she'd be back and faithfully held her username availalbe for her inevitable return. Miley has gotten herself mixed up in a few controversial moments using social media, having to explain, apologize for, or even delete tweets occasionally. But fans haven't tired of her unfiltered approach, and as a result, we get lots of pictures and videos these days of Miley twerking.

38. Ashley Tisdale

Facebook Fans: 15,276,626
Twitter Followers: 9,845,579
Klout Score: 86

One need only glance at Ashley Tisdale's Instagram page to witness her mastery of both the selfie and the cute dog photo. This Disney star has been building up her online following since 2006 when she first started her YouTube video blogs before anyone even knew what Twitter was. Since then, her fans have faithfully followed her to Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, and Google+.

39. Demi Lovato

Facebook Fans: 19,773,025
Twitter Followers: 14,569,993
Klout Score: 85

As the 21st-most followed celeb on our list, Demi Lovato often uses her social media influence to spread the word about rehab and recovery programs for young adults who suffer from the same kinds of problems she herself has so publicly faced. She also shares intimately from her personal life, in June garnering more than 132,000 retweets when she posted a childhood picture of herself with her father, Patrick Lovato, upon his passing.

Dance/Club Play Songs
*** No. 1 (1 week)*** "Come & Get It" Selena Gomez

Selena Gomez scores her fifth No. 1 on Dance/Club Play Songs, as "Come & Get It" soars 4-1 in just its fifth week on the chart. The song ties Daft Punk's "Get Lucky," featuring Pharrell Williams, for the fastest flight to the summit this year, as well as the quickest coronation in almost 13 years. "Get" is the 10th title to leap to the top in only five weeks since Madonna reached No. 1 in four frames with "Music" in 2000.

Spring Breakers on "Best of 2013 (so far)" lists

Complex - 1. Spring Breakers

Director: Harmony Korine
Stars: James Franco, Selena Gomez, Vanessa Hudgens, Ashley Benson, Rachel Korine, Gucci Mane

Guns, bikinis, and a Riff Raff-esque James Franco—it's a fix you didn't even know you were fiending for. The most divisive film of 2013 so far, Harmony Korine's ecstasy trip follows three former goody-two shoes from the Disney channel and Korine's wife as they embark on a drug-fueled spring break trip gone so wrong, but so damn right.

Sick of their boring bumblefuck nowhere college life, the foursome save up some cash to travel to St. Petersburg, Florida, with the rest of the topless and twerking borderline-alcoholic students of the south. A party gone wrong lands them in jail, only to be bailed out by a corn-rowed rapper/dealer named Alien, James Franco. What follows is a nasty crime thriller that could make any parent send their kid to Jesus Camp after viewing the flick.

Top it off with synchronized dance with rifles as props performed to Britney Spears "Everytime," with Franco on a white grand piano, and you've got the most deliciously batshit movie of the year. —TA

5.) “SPRING BREAKERS” (Harmony Korine)

Like a Ke$ha video directed by Terrence Malick (*Do* the Wonder?), “Spring Breakers” is a dub-step belly shot of the American nightmare. The zeitgeist sensation of the year (so far), Harmony Korine’s wild new film is the rare pop event that reveals the heart of our culture by wantonly celebrating its flesh.

Attention-Grabbing, Viral Music Videos: Miley Cyrus Is Right, 'We Can't Stop'

I guess that’s why they say there is no such thing as bad press.

Everyone seems to be making fun of Miley Cyrus these days. The release of the twenty-year-old’s latest single has received a disproportionate amount of the coverage: The eccentric nature of the music video that accompanies it has been described as “shocking,” “bizarre” and “ controversial.” But as she rises to the top of pretty much every social network, it’s Cyrus who has the last laugh.

First of all, whether it is due to the nature of the coverage or not, everyone wants to see the video. Cyrus is currently the most played artist on video streaming service Vevo, racking up close to 30 million spins just in the past week. And while more than 350,000 likes on the YouTube link are contrasted with close to 300,000 dislikes, the play count for “We Can’t Stop” through the network this week (8.4 million) ranks it at number one, ahead of YouTube staple “Gangnam Style” and Robin Thicke’s “Blurred Lines.”

(Note: Thicke has also seen his fair share of negative press for the less than subtle sexual innuendo and scantily clad models featured in his latest video, but the track still found its way to the top of the Billboard Hot 100 and UK Singles charts.)

What is more, the attention surrounding Cyrus goes beyond the music video itself. She jumped from being the fourth most popular artist on Instagram in terms of new followers one week, to number one the next, snagging close to 6% of the total number of new follows. She just snuck past Macklemore to be the second most viewed artist on Wikipedia with more 350,000 views in just seven days. She added close to half a million new followers on Twitter this month, a 170% increase from the previous, and counts more than 2 million mentions during that time, which is second only to Justin Bieber. All told, Cyrus jumped 22 spots on the Social 50 chart, landing at number 10.

So while Cyrus might be stepping on a few toes transforming from teen pop princess to twerking twenties sensation, it seems she’s got the right idea. Good or bad, attention-grabbing stunts and viral videos is what ensures that we can’t stop, and we won’t stop.

Taylor Swift Rules Billboard.com's 2013 Mid-Year Music Awards

Miley Cyrus, P!nk, Ariana Grande also score big wins in the annual mid-year poll.

Taylor Swift continued a stellar year by dominating the 2013 edition of Billboard.com's Mid-Year Music Awards poll, which allowed fans to weigh in on their favorite artists, songs, albums and performance of the first six months of the year. After voting officially concluded when June rolled over into July, hundreds of thousands of entries were tallied and the 23-year-old country superstar came out on top in three key categories, including the coveted First-Half MVP contest.

Swift, whose fourth studio album "Red" scored the biggest debut sales week of 2012 upon its release last October, has spent much of 2013 supporting the full-length on her massive Red world tour, which began in March and will continue through December. The singer has also taken time to perform at ceremonies like the 55th Annual Grammy Awards and the 2013 Billboard Music Awards -- the latter at which she also won the Artist of the Year trophy -- while also collecting more hits like "I Knew You Were Trouble, "22" and "Everything Has Changed" to follow her first Hot 100 chart-topper, "We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together." Billboard.com fans did their part in recognizing Swift's many achievements over the past six months: she was named First-Half MVP, topping artists like Justin Timberlake and Beyonce handily; "Red," which returned to the top of the Billboard 200 albums chart earlier this year, was bestowed with the 'Favorite Billboard 200 No. 1 Album' award; and the Red tour trumped Rihanna's Diamonds tour to earn the title of the voter's favorite live show on 2013.

Meanwhile, stars like Timberlake, Bruno Mars and Justin Bieber all posted strong showings in multiple categories, but it was the fresh-faced Ariana Grande who most handily defeated her competition. The Nickelodeon star and "The Way" singer was named Best Newcomer by earning a whopping 50 percent of the votes in the category, trouncing closest competitors Icona Pop and being handed the title from last year's Newcomer winners, One Direction. Another young female pop personality, Miley Cyrus, also found lots of success in this year's mid-year poll, with wins in the Best Music Video, Best Comeback and Best Style competitions.

Other big winners from the Mid-Year Music Awards poll included P!nk, whose hit single "Just Give Me a Reason" (feat. Nate Ruess) topped a pair of Bruno Mars cuts to earn the Favorite Hot 100 No. 1 Song crown; Beyonce, whose powerhouse performance at the Super Bowl halftime show squeaked by Taylor Swift's Billboard Music Awards display as fans' favorite televised performance of the past six months; Swedish House Mafia, who bid farewell at the Ultra Music Festival and won the fan vote for Best Festival Performance; and Britney Spears, whose next musical project is the most anticipated event of 2013, according to fan votes.

"Prime your eardrums for August 20—that's the day the soundtrack for the much-anticipated "Mortal Instruments: City of Bones" hits stores and digital download! And, today, Republic Records, Constantin Film and Screen Gems have released the track listing for the album, with the promise of even more songs to come.

The soundtrack—which features an eclectic mix of artists, to be sure—boasts brand-new tunes from Demi Lovato, Zedd and Colbie Caillat. (In fact, Colbie teamed with producer David Hodges to write the ballad "When The Darkness Comes" specifically for the film.)

For the uninitiated, "The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones"—based on the best-selling novel by Cassandra Clare—follows Brooklyn teen Clary Fray, whom upon her mother's disappearance discovers she's not as mundane as she thought, but is, in actuality, a member of an ancient race of demon destroyers known as Shadowhunters.

The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones" hits theaters August 21."

Tracklisting:

1. Zedd - "Into The Lair"
2. Jessie J - "Magnetic"
3. AFI - "17 Crimes (LA Riots Remix)"
4. Demi Lovato - "Heart By Heart"
5. Youngblood Hawke - "Bring Me Home"

anigif_enhanced-buzz-32727-1372698512-16

"When Demi was at BuzzFeed last week working on a few posts (due out next week!) we asked you to send us some questions for her via Twitter. Boy, did you all oblige! Her answers below:"

1. On her label and working with Simon Cowell:
enhanced-buzz-31625-1372693089-18

Demi: I’m really happy with my label right now. We made a really great record together. The president of my label … has been so supportive of me and we’ve actually had heart-to-heart talks — I’ve seen him cry. You don’t find that in the music industry anymore. That’s why I really love my label, they care about me. They say, “If you need time off, go take time off. We’re here for you.” But! I also love Simon, and either one would be great.

2. On stage diving:
2
Demi: I would love to. I’ve crowd surfed a couple of times. It’s a little dangerous… [Miguel] wasn’t really a stage dive. That was… That was a mistake.

3. On video games:
3
Demi: I would play Nintendo 64. Princess Peach in Mario Kart. The Sea-Doo one. Bubble Blaster? Clay Fighter. I also played Grand Theft Auto.

4. On the time she yelled out the window to Ben Stiller:
enhanced-buzz-21346-1372692455-0
Demi: I don’t know! I tweeted that I wonder if he found out I’m a musician or if he thinks I’m just a crazy girl that yelled at him. I still don’t know to this day if he bought it.

5. On romantic gestures:
5
Demi: There was a time where I was out of town for a couple of months — I was away — and this person would fly out every single weekend. [They’d] take the red eye Friday night, would see me for just a couple of hours on Saturday, just a couple hours on Sunday, and would fly back to be at work on Monday. He would fly out every single weekend for the amount of time I was away. I thought that was the sweetest, most caring thing that anyone has ever done for me. Yeah. You gotta know how to find ‘em. When you do, you can’t go back to dating immature guys.

6. On dog breeds (she’s allergic!):
6
Demi: Umm, I think I like shih tzus because I have three of them. My other dog is a mutt, and I have to be careful because I’m allergic to her. It’s gotten better now, but I always have to take Benadryl whenever I [see her].

7. On elephants, turtles, and finger monkeys:
7
Demi: A small elephant! Who would pick the other one? I like finger monkeys, have you ever seen those? They[‘re so small] they can wrap around your finger! But they grow up… and that’s unfortunate.

8. On this season:
8
Demi: Iced coffee. I’m kind of obsessed with iced coffee.

9. On a potential career on Broadway:
9
Demi: I have never considered doing Broadway ‘cause I have so many other dreams that I’m so passionate about — BUT I have a feeling one day I’ll end up doing it because I say that it’s not my passion. I’ll be like, “No, I’ll never do it,” and then I’ll go do it.

10. On her ever-changing hair color:
10
Demi: I think I’m gonna stay blonde for a while but because I said that it’ll probably change! I swear that’s how it always happens.

11. On twerking:
11
Demi: I do know how to twerk — but I save it for the bedroom. I feel like my twerking doesn’t need to be captured in front of the whole world. Hey, kudos to anyone that twerks in public, though!

Thanks, Demi!

dollymiley

Miley Cyrus has returned to pop music with a revamped image and sound, as "We Can't Stop," the lead single from her fourth studio album, has risen to No. 5 on the Hot 100 chart thanks to a menacingly catchy hook and Mike WiLL Made-It's pristine beat. In the "We Can't Stop" music video, which has earned 47 million YouTube views after premiering last month, Cyrus presents herself as an irrepressible, confident female figure -- and over the course of her career, the 20-year-old has had a lot of positive female artists to learn from.
During Cyrus' sit-down with Billboard for her recent cover story, the pop star chatted about her five all-time favorite female musical artists for the latest edition of Pop Shop's "Gimme Five" series. Among her choices? Lil Kim, about whom she says, "In my past life, I feel like that was me. I feel like Lil Kim is who I am on the inside."
