Nick Jonas to Guest Star on Hawaii Five-0
Looks like that shirtless photoNick Jonas posted recently was a preview of some on-camera beach action! (And we love any excuse to bring up that pic again.)
The youngest member of the Jonas Brothers will guest star on Hawaii Five-0 later this fall, the network announced today.
The 20-year-old singer and Married to Jonas star will play a computer hacker involved in a case that the Hawaii Five-0 gang is investigating. And like most suspects, his motives might be much more complex then they originally thought.
"Nothing makes this show more fun than incorporating well-known, talented actors as guest stars on our show," executive producer Peter Lenkov said. "We're all thrilled to have Nick Jonas join our Ohana."
Jonas joins a stellar lineup of 5-0 guest stars previously announced: Chi McBride, Carol Burnett, Tim Daly, Henry Ian Cusick, Jorge Garcia, terry o'quinn, Rebecca De Mornay, Taryn Manning and Rumer Willis will all appear in the fourth season of the CBS drama.
The series will air on Friday evenings for the first time since debuting on the network, a move CBS CEO Leslie Moonves promises is not a death slot. " We didn't have a lot of space for new 10 o'clock dramas," he told reporters at the TCA Summer Press Tour in July.
Hawaii Five-0 returns with all new episodes on Friday, Sept. 27.

Miley Cyrus heading to record at a music studio on Tuesday afternoon
Miley Cyrus rocks platform Converse sneakers while heading to record at a music studio on Tuesday afternoon (August 13) in Studio City, Calif.
According to Billboard, the 20-year-old entertainer has just landed her first-ever No. 1 single in the U.K. with her hit “We Can’t Stop.” Congrats, Miley!
Earlier that day, it was announced that Miley will perform at the upcoming 2013 MTV Video Music Awards. We can’t wait to see her perform!
Why Is Selena Gomez 'Very Nervous'?
Months of preparation, hard work and hours upon hours of rehearsal culminate Wednesday night (August 14) as Selena Gomez hits the stage for the very first time on her Stars Dance World Tour.
Gomez kicks off the global trek in Vancouver, British Columbia, where she will perform songs from her chart-topping album in front of thousands of Selenators, a thought that's giving Gomez some pre-performance jitters.
"I definitely have anxiety. I'm very nervous, but in the best possible way," Gomez admitted during her last dress rehearsal at the Citizens Bank Arena in Ontario, California. "I love being nervous. The adrenaline takes over and it just makes me want to give my all, so I'm really nervous."
It's not just the performing that has Gomez nervous: She's putting a lot of pressure on herself this time around to make Stars Dance Tour bigger and better than anything she's done in the past.
"This is a lot for me. I've got a lot to prove," Gomez said. "I've got a lot to live up to, so I'm just going to try to focus on making it the best it can be. I'll just wish for the best from that point on. Hopefully, people will enjoy it."
Gomez told MTV News she wants her fans to enjoy the show so much that they leave "exhausted" after dancing the night away.
"I want people to feel it when they hear the beat on the song, when they see a dance move, that it encourages them to keep going," Gomez said. "I want them to non-stop dance, because that's what I grew up watching in the nosebleeds, going to every Britney show, just still wanting to this day to learn her dance moves because they are so epic, so that's what I'm trying to do: make it fun, original and let them have a great time."

In Defense of Miley Cyrus
Somewhere in America, someone is mad about the fact that Miley Cyrus is still twerking.
Last night, while Kendrick Lamar was busy taunting the entirety of New York's rap pool, guess what the city's most relevant rapper, French Montana, was doing? Recording with Miley Cyrus. They were working on his "Ain't Worried About Nothin" remix, of all things, and yes, this is a real thing that happened:
Shit like this is why Jay Z is Miley's biggest cheerleader these days. Every one of her interactions with hip-hop is completely subversive. She upsets people. People who need upsetting. As Jay Z puts it, “She represents an old world’s worst nightmare,” and he’s right. The Miley Cyrus Situation is far more complex than what Jay Z is saying about her, but his quote is definitely part of it.
Miley Cyrus isn’t just pissing off conservatives who are heartbroken at the sight of their precious Disney star turned ratchet. A lot of people who are generally supportive of the proclivities with which Miley is aligning herself are concerned about authenticity now that they see them coming from her, from blacks crying “cultural appropriation” to other rap-loving white girls who just can't believe that Miley really loves and respects hip-hop as much as they do.
All of those people have a point.
Three years ago, when "Party in the USA” was riding high at No. 2 on the pop charts, Miley revealed that, despite the song’s famous lyric about a Jay Z song playing on the radio, she had never, actually, in fact heard a Jay Z song.
10 million Instagrams of Miley Cyrus With Rappers later, people are understandably a little weary of her intentions. Thus, her credibility is consistently called into question. How did a girl who didn't know "Big Pimpin" from a can of paint just a few years ago so suddenly become a legitimate fixture within the realm of hip-hop? The assumption for most is: The rich little white girl is trying on hip-hop like an outfit, and in effect, usurping a minority culture to her benefit with the promise of no eventual consequence.
But are people just saying that because she’s famous? How do we know Miley Cyrus isn’t being real?
She’s from Nashville and her dad was a fucking country music rock star. I doubt they were playing 36 Chambers around the house when she was growing up. I doubt that a relative ever slipped her a copy of Ready To Die at Christmas. So Miley didn’t really get a chance to check out or give a fuck about hip-hop during the, like, first 16 years of her life. But fans of any music should want awareness of that music’s excellence to spread, so why are we mad at a young girl for getting interested in hip-hop at her first real opportunity to do so?
Like, consider her situation. Instead of buying her The Infamous, Miley's family was grooming her to be a multi-millionaire child star phenomenon by the age of 12, and, in a sense, her life was essentially decided for her. There wasn’t much room for hip-hop study sessions with a copy of Aquemini in Miley’s day-to-day itinerary.
But now Miley Cyrus is free. She’s a legal adult, and she’s in control of her own destiny. Of course, it’s still doubtful that she can really engage you in a conversation about who had the best verse on “Reservoir Dogs,” but she’s starting somewhere with this whole phase she’s going through, and as a fan of hip-hop, I commend her for it. Miley Cyrus could have so easily fallen in line with what was always wanted and expected of her. Miley Cyrus could have went on to play concerts where people feel comfortable saying things like, “I’ll fight every nigger in here.” Instead, the first call of duty of Miley's adult life was to get in the studio with Juicy J, and people who claim to love hip-hop have a problem with that?
Miley's obsession with the culture is progressive.
The pioneers of this music fought for the right for Miley Cyrus to shake her ass to Mike Will Made It beats and no one is even taking that into consideration. The establishment thought rap music was a fad and now, 30-something years later, Hannah Montana is completely obsessed with it. That shit is poetic and beautiful.
I understand that the racial implications behind everything Miley’s doing are heavy, but let’s really think about the claims being leveraged here and consider that maybe we shouldn't rob Miley Cyrus of her ability to be into this culture authentically. I think we should welcome her with open arms, and if anything, just hope that her quasi-fiancé Liam Hemswoth keeps a copy of It Was Written in the whip or something.
Yes, Miley Cyrus a fucking white girl who is incomprehensibly privileged, to the point that she can experiment with and buy her way into behaviors that she’ll never have to suffer for, even if people of color doing the same thing do. In some ways, Miley Cyrus is like Patty Hearst deciding that she wants to run around robbing banks with a bunch of gangsters only to be conveniently saved at the end of it all, mainly because she's rich and white. But Miley Cyrus wasn't kidnapped by hip-hop; she's the perpetrator in this instance. And Miley Cyrus isn’t robbing banks; she’s making music. So I think we can all stand to be a little less uptight about it all.
I just feel like, Miley could have remained comfortably distant from blacks for her entire career, but instead she’s diving headfirst into trying to understand the culture, and I don’t want to reject her for that. She can't help her privilege. If Miley Cyrus thinks that a musical sound and style of dancing invented by blacks are amazing, why should that be kept from her?
It’s not like she’s being ignorant about who originated her latest hobbies. I mean, Miley is literally shaking her ass while surrounded by thick black women in the “We Can’t Stop” video. She could have casted a room of lookalikes, completely whitewashed twerking, and made it a safe activity white girls could do across America while remaining gleefully oblivious to the dance’s inherent blackness. But Miley isn’t stealing twerking the way Elvis stole rock and roll. She’s paying her dues one move at a time, and to me, that’s brave and that’s powerful and more people in the community should realize this and stop trying to push her away. We don’t have to grant Miley immunity, but we can let her live and stop trying to enact social justice where none is needed.
If the powers that be had it their way, rap music would have never even reached a girl like Miley Cyrus. But it very clearly did and she’s a literal manifestation of rap’s cultural victories over the course of her lifetime. When Jay Z said, “I ain’t crossover, I brought the suburbs to the hood,” 15 years ago, he was in a way predicting that the proliferation of urban culture in the mainstream at the time would eventually beget the rise of a woman like Miley Cyrus.
Rap’s best artists have made it so that hip-hop as a genre and movement can’t be swept under the rug and ignored, by anyone, in the farthest reaches of our world. Miley Cyrus came in contact with this music at some point and she was obviously intrigued by it. Is it her fault that some rapper made a great song that she heard and liked? I think anybody trying to attack Miley is looking at everything the wrong way. At heart, the core of this whole new image that she’s putting out there through is just a genuine, honest appreciation for how good black music is.
Yes, it’s ignorant to deny that Miley’s skin color, background, and position in the world present some conflict in how that appreciation is perceived, but at the end of the day, it’s not that deep. She’s a 20-year-old girl who fucks with rap. She probably wasn’t even supposed to know about hip-hop, but since this culture is a pretty big thing, the pervasiveness and influence of it trickled down to Miley Cyrus eventually, and we’re seeing the result of that manifest itself today. Let’s be real, it’s pretty amazing to watch. I’m with Jay Z. Keep twerking.

'Teen Beach Movie' cast on big ratings, getting mobbed and hopes for a sequel
Ross Lynch, Garrett Clayton and Grace Phipps talked to THR after signing autographs for "ecstatic" fans at Disney's confab.
Teen Beach Movie is not only a bona fide hit for Disney Channel, but it's becoming the gift that keeps on giving.
The network's original movie pulled in 8.4 viewers in its July 19 premiere. After all the Live+7 data became available, that number rose to 13.5 million, making it the No. 2 most-watched movie in cable TV history. The movie's soundtrack is still in the top 10 on the Billboard 200 after three weeks, and the DVD is tracking to be Disney's top seller for the year.
On Saturday, the stars of the movie (with the exception of Maia Mitchell, who was in Australia) appeared at Disney's D23 Expo to sign autographs for fans. When they took the stage, the screams inside the Anaheim Convention Center were deafening.
Afterward, star Ross Lynch -- who plays surfer Brady -- told The Hollywood Reporter: "It's not the first time I've seen this reaction."
Lynch also performed at the D23 Expo with his band, R5, which has an upcoming album, Louder, set for release next month, and tour.
Grace Phipps, who plays biker Lela in the movie-within-a-movie Wet Side Story, said she hasn't yet been able to grasp the movie's success.
"Hearing the numbers and ratings doesn't really make sense at a human, digestible level," she told THR. "But those ratings are very good, which great because it's sort of a higher-concept movie than maybe everyone is used to; there's a lot of plot to digest.
Garrett Clayton, who plays surfer Tanner, said the fan reaction online has bit humorous, at times. He told THR that he once ran across a photo for a fan-created TBM sequel, which was humorously dubbed Teen Beach Movie 2: Under the Sea.
"I sent the whole cast the picture, and there was a lot of texts about it," he said. "We were joking, 'Oh you're the pretty mermaid.'"
Clayton added that the cast is trying not to let success go to their heads.
"We're all really good at keeping each other grounded, but it's still crazy," he said, noting the "ecstatic" fans he encountered at D23. "It's a wild ride, but I'm taking it as it comes, one day at a time."
For her part, Phipps -- whose 1960s character is encouraged to pursue her passion and break out of traditional roles that females were expected to fill during that time period -- has gotten some feedback from parents about the lessons the movie teaches.
"That's part of why I signed on in the first place," she said. "I love the egalitarianism in this movie, and I love the female friendship."
While Disney Channel has not made any announcement on a sequel, Lynch said that he and his fellow cast members are game should executives decide to move forward on a second installment.
"Absolutely -- we're all down for a sequel," he said.

Nick Jonas Talks Diabetes, Miley Cyrus, His Ideal Woman + more For HuffPost's #nofilter
These days, our knowledge of celebrities too often originates with paparazzi images and snarky quotes by anonymous "insiders." After a while, it's easy to forget that stars are real people. That's why HuffPost Celebrity decided to launch its all-new #nofilter quick-fire question-and-answer series. Because how well do you know someone until they've shared their guiltiest pleasures?
Nick Jonas may only be 20, but he's already taken the music world by storm. Although he started out as a solo artist, Nick catapulted into success when he joined forces with his siblings Kevin and Joe to form the boy band the Jonas Brothers. Nick experimented with his solo career again in 2010 before reuniting with his brothers in 2013 for a cross-country tour, which wraps tomorrow (Aug. 16) in Universal City, Calif.
But what makes Nick's story even more inspirational is that he lives with Type 1 diabetes. The singer, who turns 21 next month, recently received the ACUVUE® Inspire Award at the 2013 Teen Choice Awards on Aug. 11, being recognized for his tireless efforts to educate teens and young adults about the disease, which he was diagnosed with at age 13.
HuffPost Celebrity chatted with Nick about his struggle with diabetes, that now infamous shirtless selfie and how he feels about his ex-girlfriend Miley Cyrus' transformation.
How did it feel to win the ACUVUE® Inspire Award at the TCAs on Sunday?
I was really honored to win that award. You know, it’s bizarre for me to receive an award for something that I deal with every day that sort of complicates life, but I was so happy to be able to speak about my story and hopefully give some encouragement and inspiration to other people, and that’s my main focus. I am so blessed to receive that award.
What do you feel you bring to the table in terms of influencing teens and young adults?
The thing that I bring to the table is someone who is willing to just share openly. I’m still figuring it out, you know everyday is different and we all go through things that we have to adjust our lifestyle to and you know challenge ourselves. And diabetes is like that to and to be able to share my story and be as open as I have been, I guess, is an inspiration to people.
What has it been like to live with diabetes?
It’s a daily struggle. From the time I was diagnosed, almost eight years ago, until now, it’s just been about taking it day by day and really trying to find the small victories. You know, because it’s really unpredictable. One of the more recent things in the last couple of months that has really helped me is just taking fitness and healthy living seriously and trying to sort of adjust that part of my life so that it can affect my diabetes and every other part of my life.
Does diabetes affect your exercise routine, stamina, etc.?
I think that I have to be extra cautious when it comes to physical activity and just how it affects my blood sugar and all that. But I’ve been able to find a good balance and it’s actually helped me in a lot of ways and definitely made me feel better all around.
How do you stay in shape? (We saw that recent selfie of yours!)
I found a really good trainer out in LA who introduced me to circuit training, which is more of an athletic style workout combining stamina, weight lifting, also just an overall healthy living lifestyle, and it’s been really helpful and I’m really happy with the results.
Were you surprised by all that feedback you got from posting the shirtless selfie?
I can’t say I expected a reaction, but it was great to see some people respond the way they did. [laughs] But definitely funny to see how they reacted.
If you were on death row, what would your last meal be?
I love pizza, you can’t really go wrong with pizza.
And how did you get on death row?
I don’t know. That’s an interesting follow-up question because if I’m on death row, then how do I end up getting the meal that I want? [laughs]
Boxers or briefs?
Briefs.
What is your ideal woman like?
I think someone that is confident and kind of has their own thing going on. Someone who gets sort of the busy schedule and has the same values with their relationships that I’ve valued.
Do you have any reaction to all the press that your friend Miley Cyrus is getting? Do you like the new angle she’s taking with her music?
Yeah, I think she’s doing her thing. As artists, we have to go on our own journey and you know, explore. Explore and see what it feels like to write, and I think that’s what she’s doing right now.
What’s the last song you downloaded?
The new Break song actually. It is really good. [Called “Girl, Gone, Geta’way”].
What’s your guilty pleasure?
I’m trying to think … I don’t know if I have a guilty pleasure. I’m sort of pretty wide open when it comes to why I like certain things. I love the show “Nashville,” I mean that’s a show that’s pretty incredible. I don’t know if it’s a guilty pleasure, but I think it’s great.
Would you ever guest star on “Nashville”?
Yeah, I’d love that. If they would have me, I’d love to be a part of it.
Who or what have you been jealous of lately?
Max Martin, the songwriter. He’s written so many hits over the last 15 years and he just keeps doing it. He just wrote part of the new Katy Perry song [“Roar”] I think, which I think is amazing. So, I’m jealous of his continued success.

Joe Jonas on 24th Birthday Plans & Getting Nick Drunk on His 21st Birthday.
Joe Jonas, who is celebrating his 24th birthday today, phoned in to On Air with Ryan Seacrest to talk about his birthday plans, as well as how he will soon celebrate younger brother Nick‘s 21st birthday too.
The middle Jonas Brother admits: “It’s an interesting year. Nick is turning 21, so I’ve been focusing on his party planning and making sure that he is fully intoxicated.” On the flip side, Joe adds that he plans to keep his own birthday pretty low-key. “It’s always nice to play shows on my birthday, but I’m looking forward to hanging out with friends and family … It’s starting to get where it’s not as exciting anymore you know? … And it’s just kind of another year. It’s more for me focusing on the club and all the things for when you’re 21 for Nick’s birthday."
Joe admits he wants Nick to have the same 21st experience he had. “My 21st, I ended up on the bottom of a flight of stairs. I don’t know how that happened. I spent it in a college town and we went with a bunch of our friends and there was a thing going around called ‘icing’ where you get Smirnoff Ice and someone has to secretly hand it to you and you get on one knee and you have to chug it … I can’t go near a Smirnoff Ice anymore.” Now that we now know Joe’s goal of Nick’s 21st party, how is Joe celebrating his own birthday on Thursday? By playing soccer for a good cause! “We have a star team that we’ve had a rivalry with, that one of my brothers started over the last four years, and we were trying to figure a way to celebrate my birthday … I’ve been doing a lot of stuff with the charity Feed the Children and me and my brothers started our own charity and I thought it would be a creative way to celebrate my birthday by getting fans involved, because they sometimes bring gifts to venues, and I just thought what a different way going about it having them buy tickets, but all the proceeds go to charity.”
The Jonas Brothers have been busy touring lately, and Joe admits it’s been pretty exhausting, yet fun. “It’s been awesome. It’s kind of nice to go back onstage again after so long. We remember how tiring this all is and how you love seeing a bed at the end of the day. But we’re excited. I think we’re going to try to do another tour maybe in the fall, I think. I don’t want to spill the beans, but I think probably October hopefully.”
