Jake T. Austin Chats with 'Latina' Magazine About New Show, & More

"As you're well aware by now, Jake T. Austin is one of the stars of ABC Family's buzzed-about drama series The Fosters. The 18-year-old cutie pie actor plays an adopted young Latino teen named Jesus Foster on the show, which centers on an interracial lesbian couple raising a diverse set of kids, both foster and biological.

Superstar Jennifer Lopez serves as an executive producer of the series, which airs tonight at 9/8c. The show was co-created and written by Peter Paige, Brad Bredeweg, Simon Fields, and Greg Gugliotta.

In an exclusive phone chat with us, Austin opened up about working with J.Lo, his zealous fans on Twitter, and a bit about his dating life."

Congrats on your new role as Jesus Foster in The Fosters! It’s refreshing to see such a serious show for a younger audience. What drew you to the role of Jesus Foster?

A lot. One thing that really stood out for me was being a huge fan of Jennifer Lopez - for years, I've listened to her music and watched her do film and television. I knew that everything she was going to be attached to was going to be something that a lot of people were wanting to be a part of. The Fosters is not your everyday show - it's unique, multi-racial - it's about a same-sex couple. It has been great to be able to tie in the traumatic experiences our characters have had through foster care to an intelligent audience and to be able to educate people on some of the problems that are happening.

Have you gotten the chance to work with J.Lo personally?

Jennifer Lopez has been really active on set, as well as behind-the-scenes. I haven’t really gotten the opportunity to work with her one-on-one, but it’s been great to see her direct and impact the work that we’re doing. She’s been on set on various occasions and I’ve been able to learn from her.

I noticed in one scene of The Fosters, you speak Spanish with your co-star Cierra on one episode. Are you fluent in Spanish?

I played Diego on Go Diego Go. It was a huge Spanish show and being able to do that when I was younger definitely gave me the ability to speak it then. Also, I’m half Puerto Rican and tapping into my Spanish heritage was key in being able to play Jesus on The Fosters. I don’t speak Spanish fluently, but I am Hispanic, so I’m able to take things from my own life.

In case you weren’t aware already, your fans absolutely adore you. It’s like they’re an army on Twitter. How does it make you feel whenever you log onto Twitter and see the overwhelming support for your career?

Having constant supporters and people who are always there and always giving back and knowing that they’re loving what you’re doing is always awesome to see. Anytime I’m able to log on and see fans responding to the show, its what I love.

What is the absolute craziest thing a fan has ever done for you?

The craziest thing that has happened to me is on set. We’ve had fans that have blended in and disguised themselves on set to get close to the feeling. It’s been funny and it always makes me wonder…

I’m sure our fans would agree when we say you’re a very good-looking guy. We’re going to ask to toot your own horn a bit – what do you think is your best feature?

My best feature?… My best feature would have to be my hair. That sounds so cliché – but my hair is like a separate entity.

What is your best personality trait?

I’m pretty versatile. I'm able to adapt to an environment and the way I view things based on who I’m with.

Are you single and dating?

I’m single. I’m definitely giving a shout-out to my lady supporters! Right now, though, I’m just working and really looking forward to navigating the field.

What qualities do you look for in a girl?

I look for a nice smile and pretty eyes, and if a girl is secure with herself and comfortable with who she is.

What’s the best way to get over a broken heart?

Chocolate! No, I’m kidding [Laughs]. I would say to carry on with your life, and not let anyone hold you back.

What’s the best dating advice you can offer someone who is really shy?

It would be to just address everything that makes them insecure about themselves – whatever makes them scared the most. It's important when people break out of their shell and realize what they're afraid of, so if you're nervous to talk to a girl, try to have an open discussion.

This summer, you're teaming up with Boys & Girls Clubs of America for the 6th annual Staples for Students national school supply drive. What made you want to get involved with this project?

I was approached by both organizations and I was really blessed and honored to have been asked to a part of this project. As a kid, I wasn’t always sure how the year would turn out for me. While there are others who are going hungry and who can't secure themselves with these basic necessities, we're trying to fulfill one of those - a great school year.

Any other exciting things you’re doing this summer?

I've been looking forward to seeing new episodes of The Fosters. Also, working on Rio 2, which I have been recording. I have the Tom Sawyer & Huckleberry Finn movie. I'm just really looking forward to expanding my career and maybe crossing over to producing also.

Meeting Selena Gomez rule No. 1: Do not mention Justin Bieber (Album Review)

We sampled Selena Gomez’s new album Stars Dance — but could only take mental notes — before an interview on a highly controlled Toronto visit.

Strolling into The Hazelton Hotel in Yorkville, I text Selena Gomez’s publicist.

Minutes earlier, as I was parking, she had texted another warning. The message was similar to one she emailed the night before. It was written with a declarative, pay-attention-dummy urgency, the kind often favoured by despots in fear of an uprising.

“Just want to stress again how important it is to not ask any Bieber questions or anything even relating to relationships. It’s all about the music today.”

Right. The music.

Gomez is in town to talk about her new album, . The rules of engagement are as follows: 1. I have 10 minutes to ask my questions. 2. These questions must dodge the superficial ephemera that often propel the 20-year-old into the gossip cycle: her looks, her friends, her clothes and, most frequently, her on-off-on-really-off relationship with Justin Bieber.

But there’s a problem: it’s the last day of May and the new album won’t be released until July 23 (this story was written under embargo). With the exception of “Come and Get It,” a track released early as a video, I have not heard “the music.”

So before this highly controlled swap of treacly platitudes masquerading as “an interview” can unfold, I’ve been asked to arrive an hour early to sample “the music.”

A copy of the new album is somewhere in the hotel. It is being guarded with feverish precaution, as if the 11-track recording is actually the Mona Lisa on a touring exhibition in a city prone to solar flares and exploding water pipes.

The publicist greets me in the lobby with a weary smile.

She leads me up to the fourth floor, where a quadrant of suites are booked and handcuffed reporters will come and go all afternoon under the ironclad control of several Gomez handlers, including a grizzly-sized bodyguard who gives me a menacing once-over, as if pondering the best way to snap my neck in the event I accidentally blurt out a taboo query such as, “Selena, do you prefer Kierkegaard or Nietzsche?”

“Nice to meet you,” says another publicist, as the elevator doors open.

He tells the first publicist to “keep the door locked” and “the volume down.”

She nods. He grins. I am confused.

What he means becomes clear moments later when I’m led into a suite where two other men are waiting with their own set of rules. The CIA might consider retaining the Selena Gomez PR machine for all future operations in dance zones.

“We need your recording devices,” says one man, as the other sits in a high-back chair, tapping away in silence at his phone.

I drop my bag on the desk and chuckle.

“Sorry, what did you say?” I finally ask, after noticing nobody else is laughing.

“We need your phone, your tape recorder, anything else that can record,” says the first man. “You also can’t take any notes. But I won’t take away your pen.”

“You can take mental notes,” adds the second man, without a hint of irony.

Reluctantly, I hand over my phone and digital recorder. The first man drops them in a padded envelope and scrawls my name on the front. Then he opens the door and hands the envelope to a gofer, who presumably runs it down to the hotel basement where a K9 unit trained to sniff out Top 40 contraband will determine if I’m allowed to leave the hotel alive.

The new CD is slipped into a DVD player. Music spews from the Panasonic flat screen speakers. For the next 30 minutes or so, I slump at the desk like a prisoner of war during an interrogation in an Auto-Tuned language I don’t understand.

Limited to mental notes, all I can really tell you about the new album is that the second song sounded like the fourth one. Or maybe the fifth one sounded like the seventh one. Around the ninth track, I was tempted to risk a lifetime ban from Universal Music and grab my pen — not to take notes, but to repeatedly stab myself in the cochlea.

There was a strong beat throughout, the kind of rhythmic thumping one might expect from an approaching T-Rex. The lyrics, the ones I could decipher, seemed autobiographical, especially the last track, which clearly sounded like a personal memo to a former boyfriend who may or may not rhyme with “Weston Leeber.”

But who knows? It’s possible Gomez was warbling about sangria and pedicures.

Let the record show: listening to 60-90 seconds of 11 overproduced pop songs while trying to formulate insightful mental questions under duress in a strange hotel room is not dissimilar to trying to lose weight by binging on carnival waffles.

When “Come and Get It” plays, I turn to the first man and ask what the song is about. Come and get . . . what?

“I’m not sure,” he says. “Pizza?”

Eventually, the music stops, the door opens and my gadgets are returned.

Next, I am frog-marched into another suite, past the gigantic bodyguard and more handlers who are loitering near a bathroom that no doubt contains a two-way mirror, emergency mascara and a Taser:

“Selena, tell me about the time you and Justin —”

Zap.

Then the moment of truth.

Around the corner, like a glossy apparition, Gomez is flopped on a couch. She’s wearing a blue top and black leather pants. A bouffant tangle of dark hair rests atop her delicate face. She is so lithe, so shockingly petite, it almost seems like someone shrunk her down with a space gun.

Stars Dance is my fourth album,” she says. “It’s definitely the hardest I’ve ever worked on a record before.”

So how is the new music different from the old music?

“Before I would hear a song,” she says. “I would like it and then play it and that would be that. This time I got to call producers and writers myself. I got to tell them what I was feeling, where I was in my life, what I wanted to sing about.”

Let me ask you something, I say, desperately trying to come up with something to ask. If someone were completely unfamiliar with you, how would you describe yourself?

“I’m super laid back,” she says. “I’m from Texas. I love my family. I still live with my parents. I drive the same car that I’ve driven since I was 16. That’s who I am.”

And as a performer?

“As a performer, I just love to make people smile. I just love to make people move and dance. There’s not really much more to it.”

A few minutes later, I move from my chair and dance back to the elevator. Before closing the door behind me, the bodyguard says, “Have a nice day.”

There was not really much more to it.

Justin & Selena are trying to be friends

"Just because Justin Bieber and Selena Gomez were at the same Fourth of July party, that doesn't mean the young stars are dating again.

A source says the two have not rekindled their romance. "They are trying to maintain a friendship," the source said.

Speculation of a reunion went into high gear this weekend after Bieber posted a pic of himself and Gomez on Instagram celebrating Independence Day together with a simple message reading, "#heartbreaker."

Reps for both stars declined to comment for this story.

The couple first called it quits in November. As E! News exclusively reported, their crazy schedules made it hard to maintain the relationship.

Since then it's been a roller-coaster ride for the two (and for all their fans trying to keep up with the latest).

In late May, the Spring Breakers star appeared on the cover of InStyle magazine with an interview that was done during one of their off times.

"It's uncomfortable that everywhere I go, people know," she told the magazine about her relationship status. "I don't like that. But Justin and I never really focused on the attention. You can't help who you date. So I wouldn't swear off that or say that's what I want again. I don't know. I'm a kid, and a breakup is normal. I have to go through the emotions and feel it out. I'm doing my own thing, being with my friends, and he's doing very well too."

But it was a only a few days after the mag hit stands that Bieber posted pics on Instagram of him and Gomez cuddling.

By the following week, they were apparently dunzo because Gomez told Boston's Kiss 108 radio show that she was available to date. Two weeks later, she and Bieber got cozy at a performance of LOVE by Cirque du Soleil at the Mirage in Las Vegas.

Fast forward to July 4th with Bieber's Instragam photo causing "Jelena" to trend on Twitter.

Bieber is currently on tour in North America through mid-August. After a short break in September, he'll be hitting Asia, South America and Australia until Dec. 8.

Gomez is also out there promoting her new music with a world tour that launches next month and wraps up just after Thanksgiving in St. Louis.

The "Come & Get It" singer is currently in Berlin for an appearance at the Adidas Neo Label store. Both Gomez and Bieber have endorsement deals with the footwear and apparel line."

A ballad about Justin Bieber from Selena Gomez' new album "Stars Dance" leaked today, the track Love Will Remember.

“Obviously, Love Will Remember is a personal song to me and I don't really need to say anything. I think my fans will get it. I think people will figure it out themselves." Selena said of the song in the May issue of Instyle. "I'm sure he'll like it too.”

A voice mail Bieber left for Selena is included in the opening of the track. "You are all the love in the world--- you are the love of my life," Justin says in the voicemail.

What do you think of Selena including Justin's voicemail in her song??

Kevin
and Danielle Jonas are about to become parents!

E! News confirms that Dani is pregnant with their first child.

"I was overjoyed," Kevin revealed exclusively to E! News via Skype upon learning about his wife's pregnancy. "It's been the most exciting thing in my life so far."

He added, "I'm excited and I'm nervous."
The eldest member of the Jonas Brothers took the plunge at 22 years old and married love Danielle Deleasa in December 2009 at snow-covered Oheka Castle in New York's Long Island.

The former hairdresser from New Jersey donned a Vera Wang gown and clutched an impressive bouquet by Pedestal Florists as she walked down the aisle at the French-château-themed space. Meanwhile, Kevin's brothers, Joe and Nick, served as the best men.

Following their nuptials, the newlyweds honeymooned in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico.

The young couple met in 2007 while on vacation in the Bahamas with their respective families.

Kevin popped the question in July with a custom-made sparkler from Jacob and Co. In 2012, Kevin and Danielle became the stars of their own reality series, Married to Jonas, on E!

The show gave fans an insider look at the duo's life as husband and wife, along with following Jonas' recording efforts as he and his brothers prepared to release their newest group album.

Throughout the show, the couple couldn't escape the talk of babies. Kevin made it clear how excited he was to welcome a little Jonas into the mix, while Danielle wanted to make sure the timing was just right.

And it appears that now is the perfect time to start their next chapter as parents.

Congratulations!

Tune in to E! News tonight at 7 p.m. & 11:30 p.m. for more from the soon-to-be parents!

Shake it Up is consistently one of Disney Channel's highest rated and overall most beloved shows. Series stars Bella Thorne and Zendaya are in many ways the face of the network and the fact that Disney has not made the obvious decision to renew this show for a fourth season is very troubling. We believe that it is imperative that Disney renew SIU for a fourth season and that they do so now before the cast becomes involved with other projects that make it difficult or impossible to end the show properly.

There are 3.6 million Bellarinas and 3 million Zswaggers on Twitter. This is more support than any of the other current Disney stars. If you're one of us you should support the show by visiting RenewShakeItUp.com and following and RTing @RenewShakeItUp on Twitter. Also tweet @DisneyChannelPR and tell them you're interested in seeing a 4th season. Be sure to include hashtags such as #RenewShakeItUp and #ShakeItUpSeason4
